December Dread

Steel snakes are sleeping in the draft A breath of steam in the icy air A silhouette is trembling far away Trapped within this frozen, still despair A one-way ticket, an empty platform's stone And in my head, one sound that beats alone Someone lights the stars in silver sheen So tell me, what does all of this now mean? The frost on rails, on wires overhead Leaving shadows in December's dread I search for answers in the words unsaid In blurry lights of cities gone to bed The train is cutting timelessness in two The wheels are clattering, a steady beat My path now leads to bridges torn askew This journey is my only concrete feat A contract's signed with the abyss of ice There is no road back, no rolling of the dice Someone lights the stars in silver sheen So tell me, what does all of this now mean? The frost on rails, on wires overhead Leaving shadows in December's dread I search for answers in the words unsaid In blurry lights of cities gone to bed The echo fades, a silence starts to break A new pulse rises, for goodness sake This frozen heart now feels a burning heat Lost in the rhythm, surrendering to the beat Someone lights the stars in silver sheen So tell me, what does all of this now mean? The frost on rails, on wires overhead Leaving shadows in December's dread I search for answers in the words unsaid In blurry lights of cities gone to bed
