Seventeen

We used to run through empty streets at night. Laughing loud beneath the traffic lights. Back when every door felt open wide. Back when time was always on our side. Now my friends all talk about their plans. Apartment keys and wedding bands. And I still stare outside my room. Trying to find the kid I knew. I don't wanna grow up this fast. Feels like every good thing ever lasts. Yesterday is somewhere far away. Like a song nobody wants to Play. And every year just slips right through my Hands. Turning dreams into "I understand." Maybe that's just how it's meant to be. But part of me still misses seventeen. Mom still keeps my pictures in the hall. Summer days and soccer by the wall. Sometimes I stop and look too long. Like if I blink, They'll all be gone. Now the nights feel colder than before. People even close another door. And all the things I couldn't wait to be. Don't look the same In front of me. And I'm not ready now.
