Gilded Cage

I built this prison... with my own two hands Polished the bars... to please the master's demands The key was in my pocket... but I swallowed it whole Traded my freedom... for a comfortable soul The velvet curtains hide... the rust that's underneath I smile for the crowd... while grinding my teeth I feel the walls they're closing in, the air is getting thin I hear the lock click shut again and I remember when Yeah, I'm breaking out the gilded cage tonight No more living in a frame that's painted pretty, but ain't right Every bar I bent is a lesson that I learned Every piece of me they took is a piece I've now returned This ain't a jailbreak, this is a homecoming war I'm kicking down the door, I'm not a pet anymore So watch me shatter the veneer, watch me tear the veil This bird is flying, and I'm leaving a trail The gilded paint... is peeling from the heat Of a fire I've been stoking... beneath my own two feet The master called my name...
