VENICE BABY

I met you by the boardwalk Summer of the broken air You had liquor on your lips And a gun somewhere You said honey don’t be scared I’m just a man who loves too hard I believed you like I believe In the stars You took me to the motel With the neon cross outside Said your father was a preacher But your mother never cried You’re my Venice baby Dangerous and slow You kiss me like a movie Then you leave me in the snow You’re my Venice baby I know you’ll be the death of me But God I love the way You say my name so recklessly I wear your leather jacket Even when the summer burns I like the way it smells Like gasoline and hurt You call me from a payphone Said you’re somewhere on the run I wait for you like Sunday For a shotgun You took me to the river Said we’ll drive until we die I put my hand upon your chest And swore I saw the light You’re my Venice baby Dangerous and slow You kiss me like a movie Then you leave me in the snow You’re my Venice baby I know you’ll be the death of me But God I love the way You say my name so recklessly I know how this ends I’ve read it before A girl like me A boy like you A slammed door But I’ll take the bruises I’ll take the fame Being ruined by you Is my kind of American dream You’re my Venice baby Dangerous and slow You kiss me like a movie Then you leave me in the snow You’re my Venice baby I know you’ll be the death of me But God I love the way You say my name so recklessly Venice baby Venice baby You say my name so recklessly Venice baby
