For Peace on Earth!

We joined the battle after we had seen the dawn; We were assaulting German forts. My face was covered with blood by the dreadful blow; The flesh and bones got divorced. I tasted sweetness of all my rivals’ blood; I head heartbeat inside the bodies torn apart. It’s painful to recall the death Of people killed in fight. The friend who made his final breath, I see him every night. I see the death’s caressing grin And corpses all around; I know that killing was the only mean For peace on earth to come. Grenades exploded the pillboxes from within; How’ve you survived? Tell me how?.. Well, buddy, you should just forgive my sin: I never capture POW. The shot and scream, the sky’s filled with the sound; I feel I’ve heard the beating of someone’s heart aloud. It’s painful to recall the death Of people killed in fight. The friend who made his final breath, I see him every night. I see the death’s caressing grin And corpses all around; I know that killing was the only mean For peace on earth to come. He’d dropped his weapon as I ordered him; ‘What should I do?’ - I asked myself. To have compassion to that youngster was my whim; ‘Just live’ – all I could tell. But then he’d stabbed in my stomach with the knife; I tumbled down and body of mine was losing life. It’s painful to recall the death Of people killed in fight. The friend who made his final breath, I see him every night. I see the death’s caressing grin; I’m laying on the ground; I hope my death’s the proper mean For peace on earth to come.
