I Finally Learned to Be a Father

I packed that old guitar one evening. Tried my best not to let you see. The boy inside me wanted to stay, But life kept calling me. Ross still walked those hallways softly, Trying hard to stay around. But love came knocking at her doorway, And she finally left this town. I finally learned to be a father After everybody's gone. After my son became a man too fast, And My little girl moved on. I spent years drowning in the whiskey, Trying to outrun what hurts. Now I talk to God in empty rooms, Wondering what I deserve. And every night I miss my children More than words could ever show. Because the man I always prayed you'd be is Finally alive. Daddy, it's not too late. The story doesn't end in pain. God can heal the deepest wounds and bring the Light again. And if you ever need your children, Just know we're not that far. I finally learned to be a father, But I learned it far too late to know You. The whiskey doesn't own your story. The pain doesn't own your name. Because Jesus found the broken pieces and Helped you live again. And it's never too late.
