The Bible on the Table

The house went silent When my wife walked away. Two chairs at the table, But I still pray. My son chased the world. My heart stayed behind. The nights and the walls Know the weight of my Mind. Look, a Bible on the table Still speaks to me. It says, "God stays near When no one stays." My hands are empty. My knees are worn. Yet faith is the last thing Not taken from me. Men may leave. Love may fade. But the word I read Still calls me father. I Read about Job When the night won't end. About broken men You still call friends. I mark every promise Line by line. If you were faithful then, You'll be faithful this time. Yes, the Bible on the table Still speaks to me. It says, "Hope still lasts What the heart can't see." My wealth comes thin. My years move fast. But your truth outlives My present and past. Men may leave. Love may fade. But the word I read Still calls me father. So every morning before the sun, I open the book and Wait.
