The paint still clings to the café wall. But my heart's worn thin from it all. A quiet drink, Ice melting slow. Like memories that just won't let go. You once sat in that very chair. Your smile, the season's first affair. I'm still here In the same old place. But no one listens to my Grace. I say to myself, "I'll be all right." But my voice shakes when I order Tonight. The street's still loud, And people pass. But my heart just stays stuck in the past. A stranger glances, offers a smile. I nod, then stare down for a while. Not from shame or aching sorrow. But fearing eyes that see tomorrow. The record hums, "I'll be seeing you." I hum along, But not for who. My third drink's warm, The ice is gone. Like me, nothing left to hold on.
