And what we're going to do here is we're Going to cover everything involved in DJing. Not so much the turntablist scratch master kind Stuff, because that's not really my thing. So you probably, you could smoke me on that. So we're not going to go over that. We're going to do more like we're going to Cover everything about mixing like trance and house And techno, everything from buying gear, What gear to buy, what's the right gear, To how to use the gear and on into Many techniques of DJing, Tricks, all kinds of fun stuff. Just basically everything you need to know if you Want to start DJing. Let's talk about turntables. A long time ago when I first started DJing, I made a mistake that many people make, And that was that I bought belt-driven turntables. However, I was a poor college student, so what Are going to do? You got to do what You got to do. I understand that. So I bought these Technics PDL-22s, I think they were called. And, you know, I was like, well, pitch control, Great. I can, you know, I can mix. Got a pitch control. It's great. Wrong. The thing is, belt-driven turntables, The motors aren't very reliable and not as strong As a direct drive turntable. The best direct drive turntables are The Vestax and the Technics 1200s. The Technics 1200s are pretty much the industry Standard. They're a little bit pricey, but they're well worth It. Any version of the 1210, the 1200 MK3, whatever it is, because it's magnetically Driven, which means the motor will never die, Which means you can stop it. You're not hurting the motor. It's great because if you use one of your Belt-driven or one of your cheaper direct-driven Turntables, you could hurt the motor after a while. And what's very important is the motor strength. So the Technics magnetic motor has more strength Than even I. So what we're going to do is we're going Take you from opening the box of Technics 1200 And show you what everything is and how to Put it together. When you get your Technics 1200, you're going to Get this. No, do not smash this in your Friend's faces. This is not a cymbal. This is a chest plate. This is a record platter. Now, This is the place that it goes. And the magnetic motor is right inside. And this right here is the receptor the motor. And it's very interesting. The motor Kind creates the energy and spins this and then It moves the whole platter. It's pretty cool. So what we're going is we're to take it, Holding it this way, the nice little dots on The sides. And we're going to put this hole Over this erect little metal node here. Now, we could get into the whole erect Metal node joke and the hole, but we won't Go there. You can make your own jokes up Here. So it's pretty easy. Just kind of take it by the edges. And you basically just find the hole there and Just settle it down and it just kind of Falls on its own. And then sure enough, It's perfect. And it's spinning and it's free and It'll just spin for a long time. It's pretty So that's pretty easy. This handy little thing, a little shout for Ocean 611 Records in Philadelphia and Hi-Oi, Is a slip mat. Slip mats are very important. Basically, when you get your turntable platter and You get it out of the box, you've got This and then they also give you a rubber Mat. In the 1970s, you'll see here, You know, your Pink Floyd, your Led Zeppelin. You got your rubber mat and it's safe and Keeps your record protected. That's all good. However, when we want to abuse This equipment and we want to stop the record, We want to reverse it and we want to Slow it down, speed it up, that's not a Good thing. So we invented slip mats. Slip mats, again, hole, erect metal node, Boom. The slip mat stays on top of the platter, Just over the metal, not over the rubber. So when you're playing a record and the turntable's On and you stop it, and you can just Do this with the slip mat.
