Don't Rush to Grow

The sun grows dimmer with the years. The trees appear to shrink in size. Toys and flowers meet their cheers, Yet stars descend from darkened Skies. But now I know I cannot Rise To touch the silver light up there, So heed this old and tender prayer. Don't be in haste to shed your youth. Don't rush to grow and know this truth. And mysteries lurk behind the door Of that old wardrobe, deep and grand, Where dragons coiled and serpents roared. Now, coats and scarves alone may Stand. I visit only in my Sleep, forgetting how to dream Awake, so This promise try to keep. Don't be in haste to shed your youth. Don't rush to grow and know this truth. The friend who waits upon your sill Is like a sign the day will shine. I'll travel it as a wandering hill, A brand-new secret, yours and mine. You'll have grown-up friends in time, Not twenty, maybe four or five, So A best old hope survive. Don't be in haste to shed your youth. Don't rush to grow and know this Truth. The sun grows dimmer with the years. The trees appear to shrink in size. Toys and flowers meet their cheers, Yet stars descend from darkened Skies.
