You're Leaving

Porters shuffle bags to sleepy train car quarters. One minute left, your steel ghost leaves this town. My cigarette burns fingers, ash stains all disorder, While sparrows in the puddles watch the wheels spin Down. You're leaving, You're leaving. A farewell kiss, my lips taste rust and rain. You'll never know, you'll never know What shadows of my heart you chose to claim. You're leaving, oh, you're leaving. Your lips brush mine, a phantom's brief embrace. But you won't realize, you'll never see it, The altar where I carved your name in secret. The clock hand crawls like guilt down cold cathedral Numbers. Eight jumps till silence eats your face From view. The speaker glows, washed clean by dawn's Blunt thunder. It spits our final line, "Platform nine, Adieu." You're leaving, oh, you're leaving. Your lips brush mine, a phantom's brief embrace. But you won't realize, you'll never see it, The altar where I carved your name in secret. The train dissolves in mist, hands wave through Smudged window stories. Wheels hum a lullaby measured in woe. For one cracked second, time froze all its glories. On the platform, life split like shattered glass Below. You're leaving, oh, you're leaving. Your lips brush mine, a phantom's brief embrace. But you won't realize, you'll never see it, The altar where I carved your name in secret. You'll never Know how you're Leaving Rome, my secret.
