Welcome to the Legacy album release special from the Cadillac Three. I'm Becca, and this is Big Machine Radio, and I am so excited because we've got The Cadillac Three in studio with us today. Hey, guys. Hello. What's up? Well, you guys have a brand-new album out, which I gotta say, man, this album is fantastic. I spent some time with it, had a chance To listen to all the songs, and we're gonna Play everything for everybody listening to Big Machine Radio. We're gonna get some of the stories Behind the songs. But I just wanna talk to You a little bit about the, the album in General first. Um, I had a chance to read The liner notes, and, uh, in the liner notes For Legacy, Kelby, you wrote, "Thank you to Jaren And Neil for making this one by ourselves under The radar. Proud of us." And I mean, this album, it really was kinda Unique how it all came about, that i-it Didn't actually necessarily start as, "We're going To make an album." You just kind of organically Got into it. So tell me about that. Well, we, you know, we put out Bury Me In My Boots the same time last year, and We didn't wanna wait to start working on a New record, so we just went in and started Recording stuff that we had been writing in the Last couple months on the bus. And all of a sudden, we had six, seven Songs, and we were like, "Well, let's just get A few more and just go ahead and put An album out as, as soon as we can." And it took a couple extra months to finally Get it out, but we went in. We didn't wait for anybody to tell us to Go record. We didn't wait for anybody to tell Us what to do. We just decided to go In and do it ourselves. I think, you know, I think a lot of Bands have that they, they get stuck in that Being able to put out records because they're always Searching for songs. Right. Or maybe they're not Writing them themselves or whatever that is, you Know, or all the stars aren't aligning or whatever, The label and the artist can't get along. I think we're in a great situation where we Do have a great label that supports what we Do, and it, they realize that we're different, and They're not putting us in this category where, "Well, we gotta do it like this. You gotta Wait till that single gets to a certain number On the charts before we put out a record." Right. And we're not missing songs, 'cause we write All the time. So it's, I think it was Very important to us to stand out and take Advantage of both of those things and just put Out a record, you know? Well, and how did it impact the music? Because I mean, if I read this right, there Were no other session players on this. There were no other producers. I mean, this was so self-contained with the Exception of Lori McKenna singing on one song and The outside writers who were involved. This is pure the Cadillac Three. And so when you don't have that many cooks In the kitchen trying to put their fingerprint on This, I mean, how does that impact what's happening With the album? I think it just gives us A lot of freedom, you know? We were in There, and we were able to just try stuff, You know? It wasn't... You don't feel like there's anybody looking over Your shoulder. And there's also, you know, There's not a right or wrong answer until the Three of us look at each other and go Like, "That's badass," you know? And so I think-Or, "That's terrible." Or, "That's terrible," yeah. "We need help." "That's not it." Yeah, totally, you know? And I mean, I think that, you know, there Were songs that we cut in that first session That we kept tweaking on, you know, for quite A while, but just to kinda get them exactly Right. And I mean, we did some of that All the way up until the final mix. But I think that us having the space and The time to do that and kinda do it On our own, that was a good process for Us. You know, and we've made a lot of Records over the years, but this one was uniquely Different, you know? And I think that that comes From kinda learning along the way from all the Other records that we've made.
