The Cadillac Three's new album, Tabasco and Sweet Tea, it is definitely a unique project full of Just tons of funk and groove. And so we are getting the inside scoop about Every song from the guys, and we're up to A song called Devil's Lettuce. And I feel like this one might have been Written while you were partaking, so tell everybody About Devil's Lettuce. I remember being on the bus, and we were In the middle of the idea of the record. And the thing that I'll say about this record Is, like, the labor and, like, the, the work Of this record was Jaren every morning or whatever Time we kinda wake up on the bus, like, Going to the back of the bus and putting In the hours. You know, he was, like, clocking In 'cause it was, like, something that he was Really passionate about. And, you know, He, he had a real vision for where this Record was going, and it was really awesome. And so it was like... It was one of those situations where you're kinda Trying to... Obviously, as a band, you all wanna Be on the same page, and you're trying to Do the thing collectively. And at the same time, like, you're also, As a band, it's like, it's really important to Move together, you know? And it's like Jaren was Really excited about this stuff, and so it was Like, "All right, well, like, where's this going?" You know, "What is this gonna be?" 'Cause a Lot of our records, we'll write half a record, And then we'll kinda find a new direction, And then we'll finish the second half of the Record. And this felt like, okay, well, if we Nail this in a short amount of time, It can just be one really cohesive piece. And that was what we were talking about on The bus a whole lot. And I just remember with Devil's Lettuce, I remember Having that title probably after a show. And I remember the next morning just being like, "Hey, we should write song called Devil's Lettuce." And then we'd probably, like, get up and have Lunch and whatever. Well, I remember being really Mad that we hadn't already-written that. Every once in a while we have one of Those, like Long Hair Don't Care, or something like That where you're just like, "How could we have Not have written that song?" How did I miss Devil's Lettuce? As much weed that is smoked on our bus, It's like how, how did I-Right how did I miss that? But that was really cool because Then you get back there and that's a super Funky track. Cheers. She was a blonde type rolled-Hey over trouble Water. Well, I almost made it across. She was a hiccuper, shake a lama lama ding Dong. that was the That was the last song We were talking I know. I'm just-I'm just Spouting lyrics 'cause I remembered those. Devil's-It's Devil's Lettuce. Yeah. So Dev-so back To Devil's Lettuce. Yeah. Back to what you were Saying, Becca. Um. So what-feel like we're on 60 Minutes right Now. So what is that lyric? It's, But this Don't matter at all. So that's... Those lyrics are fun. Is that what you're asking? I can't remember what you're asking. I was just Asking you to tell me about the song, and I felt like you might have been partaking when You wrote it. I think we are right now Partaking. That, whole-The Devil's Lettuce thing was All, like, trying to incorporate characters, Build characters that could reappear in other songs. But it's also like, part of it was those Verses are me trying to recreate the, Um, Dazed Confused movie. You know what I mean? Like, and an actual Scene that happened when we were all growing up. Like, we talk about all these things we were Listening to, and this was the time that we Were listening to, to these things, like the Schofield, Mudusky, Fish, those kind of things. Jazz is Dead. You know, ARU. These cool records that nobody Probably knows, but that kinda sculpted a little Backstage of what we kinda do now every night. And the story of Devil's Lettuce is exactly what Was going on every night when we were 17, 18... 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21. 20, 21. La, la, ding dong. You know what I mean? So it was a Lot of fun to write. And-How high can You count? Right. And how high can you get? Know. And so that was the idea of Devil's Lettuce. I think that it's more fun for me These days when I'm looking at our band to Be that character and write that character than it Is to sit down and be like, "I'm sitting On a truck, and she's looking at me, And I'm happy. And she's happy looking at me 'cause she's sitting On my truck." You know what I mean? That's pretty good, though. That i-that's not bad. Yeah. Happy truck. Yeah. If you're single, guys. Happy truck. Well, that song is not on this album, I can tell you that. But Devil's Lettuce is, And it's on Big Machine Radio
