We're glad to have you checking out the Legacy Album release special from the Cadillac Three. I'm Becca, this is Big Machine Radio, and we're Going through all the songs on the album. The next one I wanna talk about is Hank And Jesus, and obviously this sorta sounds like a, A summary of your Southern upbringing. Um, I also loved how it started, because I Almost felt like it sorta sounded like a prayer Before it kinda got cranked up. So can you talk to me a-about this Song? It's one of my favorites on the album. We wrote that with Angelo on the back of The bus to kinda finish out the record. We knew what we had and knew what we Needed to kind of finish it, and that was Just a cool thing. Angelo started playing that kinda Old Stones-y riff. And Kelby grew up on Hank, I grew up Southern Baptist, and it's kinda just showing the Both. And that was exactly the way my life Was, you know. Saturday nights we were out playing Somewhere. Sunday morning I was on front row, 'cause My mom played the organ. And so you kinda Get that story, you know. It's pretty much m-my growing up in a Nutshell. I think that intro came at the end, Too. I thought we, we kinda wanted to throw Something cool to start it off, and-Yeah Jaren Had the idea of kinda having that little, you Know, kind of far away telephone cut it. Yeah, we had cut it, and I, and I Sent it to, I sent everybody a thing before It went to mix, and it had that on The front, and everybody was like, "Oh." "That's cool." "That's cool." Yeah, I just love the Way that it sounded. I thought it just kinda Started off... And, and I wasn't sure if it Was gonna crank up, and then when it did, I was like, "Even cooler." Oh. Mm-hmm. "I like was gonna ask you, I mean, Was there ever a time, being that you did Sorta grow up in that background, uh, but obviously You seem like you could be a guy who's A bit mischievous and getting into trouble growing Up. Was there ever a time when the whole Hank and Jesus clashed? Oh, yeah. Dude, me and my dad didn't talk For, like, two, three years. I mean, we-Mm talked, but we didn't really Talk, you know what I mean? Um, I went Through some crazy stuff, just like kids do. And Maybe spent a little time in jail. I don't know. You know, didn't really spend any Time in jail, but I got arrested, and so That drew a line. And, you know, there's drugs, And misbehaving, and drinking at too young of an Age, and that's just what happens when you're-14 To 20 is hard with your parents. Yeah, when you're... E-especially when you're into Rock and roll, and into that kind of stuff. It's just-And you're playing music, and-Stuff Happens, you know? So I think, um-You're supposed To be figuring out what you're doing for the Rest of your life-and that's like the last Thing that most kids wanna be trying to do. So yes, Hank and Jesus did collide. Jesus won, but Hank's still pulling up. Yay, Jesus. Well, let's play the song. Here's Hank and Jesus from the Cadillac Three on Big Machine Radio.
