Time will eventually stop

Time is cruel, it clocks the living with seconds Like a mad jockey lashing a horse for more speed Time was once flowing some other direction And it promised, “Relax — everything will be alright I hand out sun across half the sky Mushroom rain, and the shade of cool air Centuries stretch along the horizon Every day feels endless there Just stay young and never learn I’ll change on you without a warning The world will turn a dull gray face That’s when you’ll walk into my trap I keep running, but I’m stuck in place Still surrounded by, damn it, unfinished things Life is full of nets, my head’s full of no plans Just a dump for the worn-out bodies A destination for the bodies gone soft I watch every show I hand out loans with interest But for every new victim There’s a prime time A little flashy, sure, but I try to stay fair It all ends one day You die, and I’ll stop there
