Is anybody else hungry after hearing that song? That's Welcome To Hayesville from Brantley Gilbert On Big Machine Radio. Hey there, I'm Becca. So happy to be talking To Brantley Gilbert about his brand new album, Fire & Brimstone. And this next song that we're gonna Play and talk about is one that I hope People are very familiar with. It's your current single, What Happens In A Small Town, that you sing with Lindsay Ell. So first of all, for people who are not Familiar with your backstory, you are currently Married, very happy, and Amber is somebody who's Been in your life for a very long time. And so people may not realize that even a Lot of your heartbreak and breakup songs are about Amber. So tell me how Amber actually inspired this Particular song, What Happens In A Small Town. You know, I talked about having some reminiscent Stuff on the album. A lot of it's current And talking about this chapter. A lot of the songs are talking about how We got here. And my wife and I have A long history, going back from when we were Really young. You know, we were off and on For around five years, and then definitely off five Years. Didn't see or speak to each other for Five years, and then got back together, we've been Together for six now. And she's got young love songs about her. She's got breakup songs about her. She's got some songs she'll never hear, like, on The soon-to-be never released album. And then there's songs like this one that, That are reminiscent, and I still remember what it Was like to not have her. And, uh, that song's about the one that got Away. I feel like we've all got that. You know, there's a part in the song I Feel like a lot of people, if not everybody, Can relate to, which is good. But specifically in our story, it's kind of cool To listen to it and know how, not how The story ends, but how it is right now, And that the one that got away came back Home. Well, I know that you've told me in The past that when you were broken up with Amber, she actually worked with your mom still, And so you kind of had that link. And then I remember you telling me that you Built the house that you live in now on Her route to work so that she would always Have that constant reminder of you. So I'm curious, when you break up with somebody Or you're trying to get over them, are you The kind of guy that still tries to maybe Keep tabs on them, or maybe you're checking out Their social media just to see what's going on? Or do you just turn them off completely and Just try to forget about them? Yeah. You know, life's pretty hectic. And through songwriting, I feel like it's the most Genuine form of expression outside of prayer to me, And it's probably one of those things I prayed About and wrote songs about and played songs about, And I guess that was my way of coping Or, or dealing with it or whatever you want To call it. But not much of the stalker Type. Never really been my bag. I don't see myself being that guy. Well, here is the non-stalkerish song. It's Brantley Gilbert and What Happens In A Small Town with special guest Lindsay Ell.
