Closer Than We’ve Ever Been Commentary

You know, Brantley, one thing that I find kind Of interesting, uh, you always say that your albums Are about a whole chapter in your life, but I mean, you know, let's face it, we're kind Of in an age where people download music. Maybe they only get one or two songs and, And this is 26 songs that you're offering up, And especially with the 16, you say, You know, "That is an entire chapter of my Life." So I mean, what are your thoughts on The fact that maybe people won't have the whole Album, or maybe they're gonna download just a few Of the songs off the album? What we know, what we've found through the years, Is that our following, they still love buying a Physical record. In a day where digital download is Everything, single sales are everything, Steve Jobs Came in with an iPod and said, "I'm gonna Make sure that Napster doesn't take everybody's Money. I'm gonna sell y'all a bunch of iPods." Turned the music business up on its head. It did turn out into a scenario where people Can buy one song and miss out on 25, Which is fine, but we do have a following That likes physical, and that gives me a sense Of accomplishment because we've released three Records that people found valuable to buy every song On it, that you found something in that whole Record that makes it important to you to buy The whole record. So in age of digital downloads, we'll sell singles, We'll take it. It is what it is. But for the people that buy the physical, for The people that download the whole record, that's Really where it's like, all right, we're doing Something right. We're writing stories. We're telling stories. It is the chapter of my Life. In a world where people are putting records Out that are five singles and some fill-in songs, We're telling stories. If you wanna hear a whole story, get a Whole record. Well said. I like it. Well, I wanna encourage everybody to Pick up the entire version of The Devil Don't Sleep, because it truly is a fantastic album, And if you really wanna get the full experience, You've gotta get the deluxe version, 'cause that's Where you'll get these bonus demo songs.
