There’s a void between static and progress That we’re always trying so hard to fill We move back and forth between hope And despair that we never quite will Some constantly quest after happy. Some settle just short of content. Some restlessly feel they must wander Some, mindless, will go where their sent It’s hard to harness or describe The things that make us all a tribe. Such a blend of contradictions, Half told truths; full fledged fictions, Makes us anything but humdrum Puts us in a rare conundrum Hard to imagine there could ever be A thing as curious as you and me There’s a world around filled with abundance But we let scarcity poison our thoughts There’s an infinite buffet of freedom But we snack from the should and the oughts. Some desperately seek out the novel Some jealously gather their stuff Some study the new ways to make do Some wonder how much is enough Some might say it’s just one great big phylum While others say some strange asylum.
